i own a shop,and first you need to take it by auto zone and have them scan it to see if It has any trouble codes in it,,this will help narrow it down a lot ,,right now there's about 25 things that can actually cause it to do this,,have it scanned and see what code if any comes up on it,,good luck,hope this help,s.,,have a good x-mas.

Try the air intake valve sensor, they get dirty quickly. And if its a ford they are well known for their sensors to go bad... You would have to replace this part because there isnt a way that you can "clean" it without either damaging the part nor actually cleaning it to make it work. Hopefully this works!

If FORD it may have a bad IAC valve (Idle Air Control) valve

there are a lot of things that could cause that problem see if your car will produce a code to find out what the problem could be .

The revolution jumps are probably because of misfiring. Might want to get the engine checked out.
