日式食物的英文說法, 大部份是由日語直接音譯, 部份詞語已進入英語世界為人所認識, 只不過如果情況需要, 可以用英文在譯音後作補充
1. 刺身 = Sashimi (raw fish)
有關詞語: 三文魚 (同鮭魚) = salmon; 吞拿魚 = tuna; 吞拿魚腩 = toro (fatty tuna); 牡丹蝦 = butan ebi (butan shrimp); 八爪魚 = octopus; 魷魚 = squid; 鰻魚 = eel; 海膽 = uni (sea urchin) ............. 除了日本特有的類別外, 海產名稱應採用英語名稱
2. 拉麵 = Ramen (noodle in soup)
有關詞語: 醬油味 = shoyu flavor (soy sauce flavor); 味噌味 = miso flavor(bean paste flavor); 豬骨味 = tonkotsu flavor (in thick pig bone broth)
3. 壽司 = Sushi (已成英語世界通用語)
有關詞語 : 握壽司 = nigiri (rice with fish topping); 太卷 = futomaki (thick seaweed roll); 紫菜 = nori (seaweed); 手卷 = temaki (hand roll); 豆腐皮壽司 = inari (fried beancurd)
4. 炒麵 = yakisoba (fried noodle)
5. 天婦羅 = tempura (fried prawn and vegetable in flour batter)
6. 鐵板燒 = teppanyaki (已成英語通用語)
7. 餃子 = gyoza (pan-fried dumpling)
8. 壽喜燒 = sukiyaki (已成英語通用語)
9. 醃菜/ 漬物 = tsukemono (pickle)
10. 茶碗蒸 = chanwanmushi (steamed egg)
