鋼琴究竟是屬弦樂抑或屬敲撃樂的問題原來在很多音樂論壇和討論區中都是有分歧, 因為鋼琴的發音媒介是弦線, 但演奏卻是藉琴錘敲打在弦上, 故此有人認為是弦樂, 有人認為是敲擊樂, 事實上在現代的音樂學院早己將鋼琴和其他以鍵盤演奏的樂器稱為鍵盤樂器, 並拆分出來成為獨立的鍵盤學系, 這亦避免決定鋼琴是那類樂器的煩惱
在音樂會裏若果有鋼琴出現的聲部而不是主奏的話, 很多時會被放在第一或第二小提琴後, 與其他敲擊樂為鄰, 這亦印證鋼琴擁有的雙重身份, 亦可以視為二者的混合體.
