C.E(Cosmic Era)71年6月,地球聯合向布出微用質量輸送器(Mass Driver)作軍事用途,後來邁奧布方面拒絕,所以大西洋聯邦發動了稱為「解放奧布作戰」,以武力向奧布作出侵略行動。地球聯合方面在戰鬥中更投入大量的機動戰士部隊,戰況非常慘烈。同一時間在奧布國內的洛哥羅島上的居住的真.飛鳥全家為了逃避戰火離開市鎮時,卻遇上Freedom Gundam和Calamity Gundam 在附近展開激戰,戰鬥間流彈令真的雙親和妹妹同時死去。雖然真可以倖存下來,但是親眼目睹至親死去,令他身為新人類的自己和戰爭感到非常厭惡。
經過死傷慘重的戰鬥,戰爭終於在布蘭度方面古蘭爾派系提出和平建議而完結。後來布蘭度的臨時評議會與地球聯合在「血色情人節」事發地點祖羅斯的遺址締結了停戰條約「祖羅斯條約」。可是自然人(Natural)和新人類(Coordintor)之間的矛盾和鬥爭並未因此而消失,戰爭再次爆發似乎只是時間的問題。
C.E73年10月,在L4新建成的布蘭度「Armory One」,再次獨立後的奧布代表首長卡加蓮.尤拉.亞斯巴來訪,因為她有感地球聯合和札多雙方面再有異動的跡像,和主張與自然人和平共存的布蘭度最高評議長吉爾伯特.杜蘭德暗中會面。

與此同時,在「Armory One」另一地方,地球聯合正在進行一個秘密作戰,作戰的目標原來是札多軍新開發的新型機動戰士..........
