Plants do not eat like animals do; in the sense they do not hunt for food since they are immobile. The great majority of plants can produce their own food through the process of photosynthesis by converting carbon dioxide (CO2) and sunlight into glucose which is then stored in the plant as starch. The plants use this starch as their primary food source. Also, plants take up nutrients from the soil through active transport, this will give the plant minerals. However, there are a few plants that can really 'eat' in the sense that they can digest other living things; the Venus flytrap and the pitcher plant attract flying insects to it with their sweet smelling nectar, thereafter capturing the insect and digesting it with its digestive juices.
