enemies 可唔可以用foes來代替

兩個字的分別應不在於對方是否壞人, 而在於是否前者較普遍, 後者較多於書面語使用. 以下是字典的解釋:

foe

an enemy:

Foes of the government will be delighting in its current difficulties.

若想表達對手的意思, 可用 opponent 一字. (e.g. 辯論比賽中你的敵方便是你的 honourable opponents)

風, 你好. 我想說一說關於 literary 與 foe 的問題: 「FOES 多是文學和詩裏用的，所以上面位引用的字典稱為 LITERARY。」literary一字除了解作文學上的意思外,也有書面語之意, 因此, 我引用的三個字典例句都不是出於文學作品的. 而你在網上找到大量foe及enemy的使用不相伯仲, 也說明了此字的使用在文字層面上與enemy相若, 但不是因「文學上」的關係, 而是因為網上的資料都是「文字上」的紀錄. 因此我的想法是, 在口語方面, enemy 比 foe 較普遍. 是否如此, 要多請教外國的朋友才知道了.

Ken, 你好。同意，LITERARY 也可指書面語。FRIENDS ANDFOES 實在太押韻順口，所以好流行，雖然 FOE 是個古老字。還有個原因，令我懷疑 FOE 在口語中常用，便是因它是單音節。現代人講野懶得就懶，同一個意思梗係揀個少音節的，你買報紙都不會成個名讀晒，講鋪頭名都是講兩三個字就算。 ENEMIES 3 個音，點及得 FOES 流行？當然，我也不是外國人，且不同國家地方也有不同和流不流行，要問過至知。有時間我也會去網上論壇問問。

Enemies是你的敵人,對手. 對方可以是壞人,或是好人(而你是壞人),或是只是和你的意見不同的人,enemies是一個比較中立的詞.

foes也是敵人,不過是有眨低的成份,通常用來說對方是壞人,而你是好人.

例如,如果想說, "雖然他是我的敵人,但我還是很尊重他", 這句裡的敵人,就應該要用enemy而不用foe.
