電動機(Motor)，又音譯為馬達或摩打。是一種將電能轉化成機械能，用來驅動其他裝置的電機設備。電動機又分為交流電（A.C.）電動機及直流電（D.C.）電動機以用於不同的電路上。

直流電(D.C.)電動機的好處為在控速方面比較簡單，但此類電動機不宜在高溫、易燃等環境下操作，而且由於電動機中需要以碳刷作為電流轉換器（Commutator）的部件，所以需要定期清理炭刷磨擦所產生的污物。
交流電(A.C.)電動機則可以在高溫、易燃等環境下操作，而且不用定期清理炭刷的污物，但在控速上比較困難。

原理
電流進入線圈產生磁場
與永久磁(磁鐵)或由另一組線圈所產生的磁場互相作用產生動力
以下為直流電電動機的操作原理:


此為一個簡單的直流電(D.C.)電動機。當線圈(coil)通電後，磁場(magnetic field)於線圈產生，線圈的磁場與磁極作用把自己推至另一方，產生轉動。

線圈繼續轉動。

當線圈運行至垂直，電流轉換器(Commutator)將兩方線圈的電流方向逆轉，線圈所產生的磁場亦同時逆轉，使發動機運動方向不變
