Suggest to buy the same speed of your current RAM, since the computer will run slower speed of all ram you have plugged in.

Unplug your old RAM and ask the computer store to get the same RAM configure but in 512MB

BUT before you buy any new RAM, check your motherbroad if you have any available free RAM slot for you to insert the new one.

ALSO, if all RAM slot are full, then you got to remove the old one and insert the new one on it. If it is the case, then you probably need to get a 1GB Ram, but check with your motherbroad manual to see if it is supported.
