Each of 5 unlabelled bottles contains one of the follow chemicals:
2M hydrochloric acid 2M nitric acid 2M sodium chloride solution
2M sodium hydroxide solution distilled water
Suggest how you would carry tests to identify the contians of each bottle, using the materials and apparatus listed below. Your answer should include the observation of each test.

I think this is the Question 5 in HKCEE 1998 Chemistry Paper I.
From a suggested solution, the answer should be:

First, copper foil is added to each chemical.
Only nitric acid can dissolve copper(/ gives a blue solution/ brown fumes). (1)

After that, copper(II) chloride solution is added to the remaining four chemicals.
Only sodium hydroxide gives blue precipitate. (1)

Then, copper(II) carbonate to the remaining three chemicals.
Only hydrochloric acid gives colourless gas bubbles. (1)

Lastly, the remaining two solution are evaporated to dryness.
Only sodium chloride solution will leave residue. (1)

The remaining one is distilled water. (1)
