Van nistelrooy is a Dutch footballer who plays in the position of centre forward for Real Madrid. He has previously starred for the national team and Manchester United, where he holds the record of being the club's top scorer in the European Cup.

However, despite being the Barclays Premiership’s second highest scorer with 21 goals in the 2005–06 season, Van Nistelrooy had to settle for a place on the substitutes’ bench after being dropped for the Carling Cup final against Wigan Athletic. He scored against West Ham on his return to the first team on March 29 but was dropped to the bench again for the next match against Bolton. He did come on as a second half substitute, though, and scored the winner in a 2–1 victory. It was his 150th goal for Manchester United. During the World Cup there was considerable doubt as to whether Van Nistelrooy would continue to be a United player, with strong rumours that he might go to Germany or SpainOn July 14 it was confirmed that he wanted to leave the club.On July 26 he passed a medical at Real Madrid.

Career
Van der Sar began his career at FC Foreholte (Voorhout's local football team), then moving to VV Noordwijk, where he was spotted by Ajax. He was part of the team (Ajax) which won the UEFA Champions League in 1995. He went on to play for Juventus, and moved to Fulham in the English Premiership in 2001. On June 5, 2005, he moved to Premiership club Manchester United in a transfer for reported fee of £2 million, signing a two year deal. The exact transfer fee was undisclosed. Van Der Sar was signed to solve goalkeeper woes at Manchester United who has a string of unsuccessful No. 1s in Mark Bosnich, Massimo Taibi, Fabien Barthez, Tim Howard and Roy Carroll following the departure of Peter Schmeichel in 1999. Because of his exacting performances to date, many United supporters consider him successful in filling the boots of the Great Dane.
