The small stones in the ecosphere represent the soil on earth. The ecosphere has about two-thirds of water and one-third air. The source of energy is also the sun and of course there is life: shrimps, algae and bacteria.

The ecosphere is sealed. Only light can enter the system and the entire system relies on light.

The small ecosphere has an average lifespan of approximately 2 to 3 years. Larger ecospheres can last for a longer time. The longest lifespan is 10 years or more.

There is sea water, bacteria, gorgonia, small stones, algae, snails and some shrimps. If suitable light is provided, the ecosphere can maintain for at least 7 years.

To maintain the ecosphere, the following has to be noted:
The algae in the ecosphere (Colour): Too much light would cause the algae to reproduce rapidly, leading to increased pH of the water. This could lead to the lack of oxygen in the water and cause the shrimps to die.
Temperature: Keep the ecosphere within 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. Do not bring sudden changes to the temperature.
Light: Use a man-made source or scattered light. Shine the light for 6 to 12 hours every day.
