The Avenue of Stars is located in an easily accessible section along the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade stretching from the southern end of Salisbury Garden to the New World Centre.

To pay tribute to outstanding professionals of Hong Kong's film industry, to promote tourism industry, and to consolidate Hong Kong's position as Asia's World City, the Avenue of Stars which is located at the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade was given a glittering official opening on 27 April 2004. It was opened to the public and visitors from all over the world from 28 April 2004 onwards.
The officiating guests were The Hon Henry Tang, GBS, JP, Financial Secretary, The Hon Stephen Ip, GBS, JP, Secretary for Economic Development and Labour, Dr The Hon Patrick Ho, JP, Secretary for Home Affairs, The Hon Mrs Selina Chow, GBS, OBE, JP, Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Dr Cheng Yu-tung, Chairman of New World Group, Mr Manfred Wong, Chairman of Hong Kong Film Awards Association Limited. They also conducted the symbolic switch-on ceremony.

The Hong Kong Film Awards Association Limited, together with its member societies (including the City Entertainment Magazine), are responsible for the election of film professionals to be honoured at the Avenue of Stars. The Hong Kong Film Awards Association Limited will nominate film professionals as additions to the existing list on a regular basis in future.

The Avenue of Stars is a HK$40 million project financed by the New World Group. The project is supported by Tourism Commission, Hong Kong Tourism Board, Leisure and Cultural Services Department, and the Hong Kong Film Awards Association Limited.



The New World Group constructed the Tsimshatsui Waterfront Promenade in 1982. In 2003 the Group sponsored HK$40 million for the construction of the Avenue of Stars right on this promenade. The Avenue of Stars is a salute to eminent Hong Kong film workers for their devoted contribution to local and world theatres. With many visitors to Hong Kong being fans of our movies, the Avenue of Stars also serves as a tourist attraction. Upon completion of the Avenue of Stars on 27 April 2004, Dr. Cheng Yu-tung, Chairman of the New World Group, took pride to hand it over to the Hong Kong SAR Government. Henceforth, it has become public property destined for the enjoyment of visitors and all Hong Kong citizens.

Avenue of Stars, is located in the seashore corridor of East Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon. This corridor is existed for a long time and used for connecting Hum Hom and Tsim Sha Tsui. From time to time, it received a government funding for rennovation, and had been grand opened in 27th of April 2004. In order to praise the great achievement of outstanding Hong Kong movie stars, thier hand print would be printed on the corridor. Now, it is one of the most critical scenic spot of Hong Kong.
