Yes, this is a passive sentence. 點解用 BEING?因為是 REFLEXIVE,個動詞所講的動作是個 SUBJECT 去接受,所以用 BEING。BEING 是 BE PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE 的 PASSIVE VOICE, 是 present participle.

being + past participle (passive voice)

~ steve hates being kept waiting ~

指 steve 怕別人要他等候。中文是不能用被動寫出來,英文才可以。

令一個寫法是

~ steve hates to be kept waiting ~

意思一樣,但 BEING 那個寫法會較簡潔。

如果是 ACTIVE VOICE, 會是

keeping, to keep

Steve hates keeping people waiting.

keeping 是 PRESENT PARTICIPLE

Steve hates to keep people waiting.

to keep= to infinitive

轉了 ACTIVE, 意思立即改了,本來是 STEVE 討厭別人要他等候,現在變成 STEVE 討厭要別人等候,所以ACTIVE 和 PASSIVE 意思剛好相反。

這個被動式和其他被動式不同是 IS 不是作為主動詞,所以個 BEING 是代表 WAITING 的 PASSIVE VOICE,不是主動詞 IS 的 PASSIVE VOICE。He is waiting. (active)People are waiting for him. (active)People keep him waiting. (active)He is kept waiting (by people). (passive)

這句的開頭是 ACTIVE, 嚴格來說是 ACTIVE, 因用 HATES,不是 IS HATED,但 HATE 其實是講情緒的,並不是甚麼動作,但後面所用的 BEING KEPT WAITED 好明顯是 PASSIVE FORM 和 MEANING。所以你可說前面 ACTIVE, 後面 PASSIVE。

這是被動式句子
原本的動詞keep轉被動式為is kept
不過因為hate這個動詞之後的動詞要轉為gerund(-ing form)
所以is轉成being
