I have a problem. I am fifteen years old and nearly all my friends at school have pets. I feel left out because of this. I have asked my parents many times if I can have a dog or cat but they always say no. My mom says she thinks it is real really cruel to keep pets indoors all day. I think they are being unfair.

这句话是是出于作者，因为之前已经有了句号。或引号“”，所以不是延续母亲的话。若是母亲说的，应该是My mom says she thinks it is reallly cruel to keep pets indoors all day and the it is being unfair因为unfair是形容词，而又是在形容人的行为，所以需要用到being. 如果没有，则是直接形容人的个性。eg: I think they are unfair. 我觉得他们不公平（句子并不通）I think they are being unfair. . 我觉得他们这种做法不公平
另外，加了ing代表現在進行式，是作者就父母不讓他養寵物而覺得他們“正在”覺得不公平
