Sir Charles Baskerville died of a heart attack. Dr. Mortimer, a friend of the Baskervilles, believed that Sir Charles had died of horror. He also believed that Sir Charles's death was related to the Hound of the Baskervilles. So he asked Sherlock Holmes for help. In fact, it was Stapleton who had kept the hound. He was also a Baskerville and wanted to inherit most of the Baskervilles' property.
