英文翻譯 but there 的意思

The lion cub wasn’t nearly old enough to look after itself, but there it was all alone in the African bush.
句中的 “but there” 並非是多了出來的文字, 相反, 這兩字的作用是連接及回應句子前部份。句子是由兩個子句 (clause) 組成：The lion cub wasn’t nearly old enough to look after itself 及 there it was all alone in the African bush, 而 ‘but’ 作為連接詞 (conjunction) 把兩個 clauses 連接起, 成為一句子。
‘There’一字在文法及理解方面其實是應該和 ‘it was’ 相連的：即 ‘there it was’, 作用是回應前一個 clause。前面說奶獅還未能照顧自己, 後面說的如果與前面有矛盾不同, 便要在語法上處理, 而這裡用了 ‘there it was’ ( ‘牠就在那裡’ 的意思 )。
全句是：幼獅還未夠大照顧自己, 但牠就在那裡, 獨個兒在非洲叢林中。

but there 不是一個詞語，不能抽出來譯。如果重譯全句，我會這樣譯：

小獅子還年幼，未及照顧自己，但已是孤孤單單地處於非洲的矮樹叢中了。

小獅子雖然年幼,未有能力照顧自己,但此終牠也要獨自在非洲森林生活。

直譯: 「但是那裡」,

但整句可這樣譯 (i think)
「小獅子還未懂事去照顧自己, 但牠仍需孤單地生活在非洲的叢林中。」
