a)Titanium exists as titanium(IV) oxide (rutile) in nature. This oxide cannot be reduced to metal by heating with carbon. Explain where you would place titanium in the reactivity series.

a)It should be placed above Zn
Titanium cannot be extracted from its oxide by means of heating with reducing agents, so it is quite a reactive metal. It is high in the reactivity series.
Extraction of reactive metals requires the electrolysis of molten ores.
Ti無法用heating with Carbon呢個方法去extract
即無法用heating alone
必須用更勁的方法 - 電解
所以在Zn之上
b)Mercury would be avaliable earlier than Titanium in history because mercury is easier to extract than titanium.
愈容易extract既metal就愈早被使用
