There are two containers of pentanut oil, the normal size and the jumbo size. The volume of the normal size is less than that of the jumbo size by 40& and the difference in volume is 600 ml.
(a) Find the volume of the normal size.
(b) If the volume of the normal size is increased by 5%, find its new volme.

i think you mean % rather than &, right?

well, let normal size be N, and jumbo size be J.

N = 40% of J = J * 0.4 comment: 40% = 0.4

Then, J - N = 600ml, which is J - (0.4 * J) = 600ml

1J - 0.4J = 0.6J = 600ml

J = 600ml / 0.6 = 1000ml.

(a) N = 0.4J = 0.4 * 1000ml = 400ml.

Volumn of the old normal size is 400ml.

(b) new volumn = 400ml + (400ml * 0.05) = 400ml + 20ml = 420ml.

Do you understand it better now??

a) Let y be the volume of the normal size
then the colume of the jumbo size would be 40y
40y-y=600
39y=600
y=小數?
WHAT IS 40&
