A guarantee is a promise from the service provider that the product works as expected or the service is delivered as promised. To guarantee is the action of making a guarantee.

A warranty is a promise that if a product has a defect, the problem will be fixed by the manufacturer.

For example, a retailer can guarantee that it has the lowest price by offering refunds if it overcharges. The same retailer may also guarantee for the first year that the products it sells are free of defect by offering a warranty.
