1 - { 1/1 - (1/1 - 1/a) }= 1- { 1/1 - [1/ (1-a)]}
=1- (1/ -a)
= 1/ (1+a)

Is it = 1 - 1/{1 - [1/ (1- 1/a)]} ?
If yes, = 1 - 1/{1 - 1/[(a-1)/a]}
= 1 - 1/{1 - a/(a-1)}
= 1 - 1/{(a-1-a)/(a-1)}
= 1 - 1/{(-1)/(a-1)}
= 1 + 1/{1/(a-1)}
= 1 + a - 1
= a

If yes, = 1 - 1/{1 - 1/[(a-1)/a]}
= 1 - 1/{1 - a/(a-1)}
= 1 - 1/{(a-1-a)/(a-1)}
= 1 - 1/{(-1)/(a-1)}
= 1 + 1/{1/(a-1)}
= 1 + a - 1
= a
