The size ratio of Plasma and LCD TVs is 16:9 which is the ratio of most movie pictures. This is in fact our eyes visual ratio. That is why now most Plasma and LCD TVs follow the same ratio. If you watch a DVD movie, whether in normal 4:3 TV or 16:9 TV, they give you 16:9 viewable ratio. It is just that in 4:3 TV there will be two black bars on top and bottom of the screen. In fact, 16:9 Plasma and LCD TVs have a function to set the TV viewable ratio at 4:3 so that normal TV broadcast signal will be exactly as what you can see in 4:3 TV. On contrary, there will be a black bar on right and left of the screen. But in fact, even those CRT traditional TV also have 16:9 size but they are not very popular in Hong Kong. I do not know what kind of big TV you are talking about. But for CRT TV, it is a traditional TV using a ray tube to project picture on the screen. The size cannot be too big because of the limitation of the technology. Back Projection TV puts a projector at the back of the screen inside the TV box and project picture to the screen.
