definitely not drop down, as mentioned above, u can't drop the words (which are intangible - so to say la). I am not making a statement, but most of the time u can only drop something thats tangible, something u can feel and touch, an object.

Jot down - usually use it in a very casual situation, when u just wanna make a quick note, nothing in details. Jot down something just to remind you of something.

Say for example, u need to write an essay with 1500 words, and ur teacher is starting to explain what is expected to be in the essay. Most of the time, in this kind of situation, u would not have enough time to actually write everything the teacher talked about, so what u do is u jot down the main points. u may write *lifestyle*, *in the past*, *female*, *male* and *today*....so after the teacher finish speaking, just by look at what u jot down... may be say two days later, u can, from the words that you jot down to remind what the essay is about.

In contract, write down kind of give a feeling that you are properly writing something, not scribbling (that is another word for jot too : )
