是．絶對是．比較用於口語化方面，就如你在街上撞倒別人，你便會說聲sorry. 又如你在學校打了另一同學，老師叫你: say sorry to him, ok? 所以絶對是道歉．
至於那個apology, apologies是比較用於文字上及官式化．寫道歉信時就會用那字了．

2001年美國偵察機導致中國戰機機師王偉殉職，美國不肯直接道歉，用了“very sorry” 代替。sorry有道歉的意思，但沒有apology來得強烈，又可解作難過，中美各取所需，危機得以解決。

英文来说, sorry 除了表示道歉,也可以表達 感到抱歉的;感到遺憾的,感到難過的;感到可憐的.
例如:I am sorry to hear that your brother passed away.
