Jim, Sandra and ken went to a library together. The air-conditioner was turned on in the library.
Jim who stand in the left hand side : It is cold here. I guess the temperature is below 20℃.
Sandra who stand in the middle :Really? But I feel a bit hot instead. The temperature here should be higher than 20℃.
Ken who stand in the right hand side: I agree with Sandra.
(a) Based on their conversations, do you know whether the temperature in the library is higher lower than 20℃? Why?

(a) Based on their conversations, we do not know whether the temperature in the library is higher or lower than 20℃. Jim, Sandra and ken only could say the temperature in the library is hot or cold and could only guess the temperature to be higher or lower than 20℃.

(b) To know the actual temperature in the library, we should use a measuring device to measure the degree of hotness/coldness of the place. The common method is to install some (Thermometers) in the different locations in the library. See details of ((Thermometer) as below (from Wikipedia):

A thermometer is a device which measures temperature or temperature gradient, using a variety of different principles. The word thermometer is derived from two smaller word fragments: thermo from the Latin (or Greek) for heat and meter from Latin, meaning to measure.
