the students`; union of modern secondary school organises a fund-raising christmas ball every year.last year,140 students attended the ball.the ticket price of the ball was $40 and the total cost was $3000.suppose 10% more students attend the ball this year and the total cost id increased by 20%.
if the students`; union wishes for an increase of 30% in the fund raised as compared to last year,what should be the percentage increase of the ticket price?

Let the percentage increase of the ticket price be a%
Student * ticket price – cost = Fund raise last year
= 140 * 40 - 3000 = 5600 - 3000 = 2600
Student No. this year * ticket price this year - cost this year = Fund raise this year
Thus, 140 * (1 + 10%) * 40 * (1 + a%) - 3000 * (1 + 20%) = 2600 * (1 + 30%)
140 * 110% * 40 * (100 + a)/(100) - 3000 * 120% = 2600 * 130%
(100 + a) * 61.6 = 3380 - + 3600
100 + a = 6980 / 61.6
a = 113.31 - 100
a = 13.31 (%; correct to 2 sig. fig.)
