What are Guides?
Photoshop guides are made to help Photoshop users on alignment and layouts. They are small ruler lines that you can use to separate your documents in sections, either horizontally or vertically. They are just like HTML Tables. Content between guides can be sliced down into tables. Guides are used by most of the professional web Designers to position their content or to adjust everything. Most of the templates found on the web are designed with guides to separate it in sections and make it easier for users to control the template. Guides also help you when you are designing Business cards. It helps you position the content very easily.


How to use Guides?
Guides are easily accessible when the Rulers are shown in your document. To show Rulers, go to View >show > Rulers and make sure it's checked. When Rulers are shown you can click on the top and right section of your document, where you can see the rulers and drag guides in your document. To move your guides select the Move Tool and drag your guide to move it. To delete your guide select the Move Tool and drag your guide out of your document and release it.


How to slice Guides?

To slice guide's content , select the Slice Tool from the menu or press “S”. Then you can start from one corner of the guide area and drag to the end. This will make it select only the area inside your guide. It makes your slicing easier and more professional also. Guides also help edit your templates later on when you decide to change your template. The Slice tool is designed to select only the area inside guides, so its one of the ways you can tell photoshop what areas you want sliced.
