Like Picasso and Miro, Salvador Dali was born in Spain, due to every aspect of his absurd, erotic and insane life( his appearance, his actions, his comments and lifestyle, and his utterances) that makes him to symbolise Surrealism.

"William Tell" is a very typical work of Dali, as the viewers we can recognise the work at the first glance. Everything are photographically real, but objects like the piano, boxes and horses are still painted in distorted form. Those two primary figures are sort of decaying, melting and this is shown clearly. Things are seems to be merged together, as we can see from the arm of the man who is holding a scissors, it's dissolving into the wall of the fountain.

The sky's colour are luminous glowing colours, almost jewel-like. This painting has a traditional, illusionistic perspective with almost limitless depth.

The sexual organ or sex are highly emphasised in this painting, as it's shown in the flying horse and the man's penis is out of his panties. This is often appear in Dali's works, too.

This can be described into different interpretation. My point of views are the eggs in the net can be represents the reproductive system in all living organisms but in such a way that people at that stage are still feel shy to talk about sex. It can be find in the figure who is covering his/her face who feel scare and embarrased. If the other one is clearly shown as a man, this figure supposed to be a woman, but the sexual organ is cleverly covered. This left out the imagination for us to think about the gender of this figure. It is possible that it is referring to homomsexual.

The excited fantasy scene from the sky are painted in a metaphorical way. It's created a sense of the rhythm coming from the melody of the piano, if you look carefully on the pianist, his head is dissolving into a lion head which lion represent the majestic of man.
The flying horse for the literature meaning in english will be about the organsm and happiness of sex.

We can really see the insanity and dream of Dali through his work.

3 Paintings from Salvador Dali related to [William Tell] :

William Tell and Gradiva 1930
The Old Age of William Tell (A study of Buñuel's Tristana) 1931
The Enigma of William Tell, 1933

William Tell was a legendary hero of disputed historical authenticity who is said to have lived in the Canton of Uri in Switzerland in the early 14th century.

The Enigma of William Tell, 1933

"The Enigma of William Tell" managed to offend even Dali's fellow Surrealists, with its depiction of raw meat slung over Lenin's elongated right buttock. Because, you see, the other Surrealists liked Lenin and Communism, while Dali favored Hitler and Fascism. And the elongated buttock, in case you were unclear on the concept, was considered disrespectful to Lenin. Or something like that..........
