Actually, the HKG-London service has had harsh competitions ever since 1970s. Let me tell you more...

Before 1979, only BA flew this 'the world's longest domestic flight'. Then, BA's quality deteriorated and competitors are to be introduced. At that time, CX, British Caledonian (英國金獅) and Laker Airways (low-cost company, bankrupted) all applied for the right to fly. Finally, BCal and CX both launched HKG-Gatwick via The Gulf in 1979.

In 1984, BCal collapsed, so, BA v.s. CX

In 1994, VS started flying to HKG.

In 2004/05, QF extendded QF28/29 to LHR

In 06, Oasis and ANZ both entered the market in OCT.

At the moment, there are 6 airlines operating Hong Kong-London with 11 Daily operation...
On the London route, majority of the demand on low season come from Business Class passengers who are on Business Travel, and less Economy Class passenger apart from those who are retired and live in either country...
So during low season, airlines would tend to lower their price to compete for that limited amount of Economy Class traveller who would fly during the low season... With heavy competition and the recent entry of Oasis Hong Kong and Air New Zealand to the market, that means airlines have to lower their fares to try to maintian their share on the market...
Because of all those issue above, all airlines would tend to lower their price to a certain level and compete with a similar price... And with a lower price, they are hoping that they could get hold of more passengers and attract more people to fly on the route...
On the other hand, to other European Destinations, there are only 2 airlines or even 1 in some case operating it... So doesnt matter if the passenger demand is high or low, the price level will still not be as low due to lack of competition... If Oasis Hong Kong entry any of these market, those traditional airlines would cut price for sure to compete...

去其他歐洲航線的都多是國泰和另外一家的「競爭」，由於機位有限，所以航空公司也可以保持高點的票價。
