Before 1979, only BA flew this 'the world's longest domestic flight'. Then, BA's quality deteriorated and competitors are to be introduced. At that time, CX, British Caledonian (英國金獅) and Laker Airways (low-cost company, bankrupted) all applied for the right to fly. Finally, BCal and CX both launched HKG-Gatwick via The Gulf in 1979.
Competitors in 1979: BA, Cathay, BCal
In 1984, BCal collapsed, so, BA v.s. CX
In 1994, VS started flying to HKG.
In 2004/05, QF extendded QF28/29 to LHR
In 06, Oasis and ANZ both entered the market in OCT.
