A sum of money is to be evenly shared among 12 persons . However , two of them are absent , so each of the 10 attendess gets $50 more . Find the total amount of money .

Let the total amount of money = T.
Let the original money evenly shared among 12 persons = A = T/12
Let the money to be evenly shared among 10 persons = B = T/10
After two persons are absent, each of the rest 10 persons can get $50 more, therefore, we have,
B – A = 50
T/10 - T/12 = 50
Multiple 120 on each side, we have
12T – 10T = 50x120
2T = 6000
T = 3000
Therefore, the total amount of money is $3000.

x= y/12


10x + 10*50 = y
5/6 y + 500 = y
500 = 1/6 y
3000 = y


the total amount of money is 3000
