inspector & detective

inspector 是指警長或督察,而 detective則指是私家偵探,兩者是不同工作方式的,

inspector 督察有執法權力,有檢查身份証,拘捕權,防止罪惡,

而 detective私家偵探則沒有任何執法權力,不能查身份証,不能防止罪惡,只可以作調查,屬私人性質.

所以權力方面當然是inspector 督察的執法能力高啦.

但另一方面,detective私家偵探需沒有任何執法權力,但是尤於是私人性質,自己是老闆,相對地位當然比督察高啦.

以上就是本人對兩者的評價.

你個問題冇 straight forward 答案，仲英美有別。
第一，無論在香港、英國、美國、法國....，Inspector 係個 title。你唔會叫一個警員或警長做 inspector (香港譯作幫辦)，幫辦就係幫辦，無論係 Inspector traniee 見習幫辦(一粒花)、Inspector幫辦(兩粒花)、Senior Inspector 高級幫辦(兩粒一扮) 或 Chief Inspector 總幫辦都叫「乜」幫辧。
第二，好多國家同地區嘅警隊係冇 Detectives 呢個 title 嘅，香港警隊所師承嘅英國警察編製亦冇，但在英國，detectives 泛指所有CID (刑事偵輯處)的調查員，無論其官階高低，一律都可叫 detectives。
第三，在美國個別警區有 detectives 做 title。例如LAPD及NYPD，Detectives 是偵輯員，但 rank 不會比穿軍裝警官 (Officer) 高。
第四，Detective 亦是私家偵探的统稱。
尤是觀之，叫得Inspector 一定係 Inspector，叫 detective 可以好高級亦可以好低級，亦可能只是私家偵探。單一個名 Detective X (莫探員?)，想像空間較大，唔知乜頭乜路，反而 inspector範圍窄啲。一個CID嘅 inspector 都可以叫 detective。真係要講 respect，我揀 inspector，因為inspector都算幾 senior。
註: 小說常用 detective 多於 inspector。

Detective is not just 私家偵探. Have you ever seen X files? X files is talking about FBI detective.

Inspector & Detective is different. It is hard to say which one is higher.

"Inspector" is the ranling but "Detective" is an adjective.
