It is an analogy -
In leadership training, there are many theories and there is no single rule/methods which will work all the time. You have to make adjustments. In other words, you cannot use the same principles all the time. Which method to use depands on who you are leading. You need to observe and evaluate what kind of people you are leading and what can motivate them the best before you determine which way to go. Some leaders (bosses) will use the same principles all the time, and never adjust for many many years and that's why they make their subordinates life mysterable. (And the young ones may think they are stubborn There is an old saying:
Good Leaders work with people and his teammates; he will never ask/make his teammates work with him.
