Programme Aims
The aim of the BA (Honours) Scheme in Fashion and Textile Studies is to produce competent professionals with balanced generic skills for the fashion business including textiles, apparel, retailing and related organizations. These professionals will play an active role in the development of the fashion and textiles industry both locally and internationally.
Upon the successful completion of the programme, students should be able to:
1. exercise intellectual capability developed through various academic activities in solving fashion design, technological and business problems;
2. apply both general and specific knowledge and skills to, and demonstrate professional competence in, the functioning of the fashion business, and to excel in their endeavours in today's competitive environment;
3. communicate effectively with professionals in the business;
4. exercise enquiring, analytical, innovative and creative ability in responding to political, economic, social and technological changes in the global environment, and to create opportunities to develop business;
5. deploy effective communication skills, interpersonal skills, and computer skills in their activities and in the competitive environment;
6. initiate self-learning to become life-long learners, and to keep abreast of advances in their fields; and to
7. reflect a sense of social responsibility and consciousness.
Characteristics
The Scheme provides a route for HD graduates to upgrade their specialized knowledge to the honors degree level.
Professional Recognition
Accreditation will be sought from the Textile Institute (UK) and the Hong Kong Institution of
Textile and Apparel (HKITA).
Programme Structure
The Scheme is for students with a specialized knowledge of textiles and clothing. Students will be allowed to study the specialism other than they studied in the Higher Diploma programme.
The normal duration of study is three years, including two summer terms. Core subjects pertaining to each specialism will be offered in each semester. Elective subjects will also be included to enrich the students’ learning experience.
