History
In April 1988, about 70 people from the Kowloon Tong Alliance Church began an English-speaking worship service at the YMCA at Salisbury Road in Tsim Sha Tsui. During its early days the church was led by a temporary convening committee whose functions included the planning of worship services, strategic planning, determining the philosophy and structure of leadership, recruiting of pastors, finding a new location for worship and other meetings, overseeing the youth ministry, Sunday Schools and handling church finances.

The name Evangelical Community Church was chosen to reflect the interdenominational character of the fellowship as well as the shared vision to evangelize the English-speaking community in Hong Kong .
