The hypotenuse of a right triangle is 6 cm and one side is 2 cm longer than the other. Find the length of each side to the nearest tenth of a centimetre.
Let one side is x cm, then other side is x+2 cm
By Pythagoras' Theorem
x^2+(x+2)^2=6
2x^2+4x-2=0
x^2+2x-1=0
x= 0.41421 or -2.4142 (rejected)
the length of each side are
0.4 cm, 2.4 cm, 6 cm respectively
