(reserving means keeping, but the passage means extra/unnecessary fuel is used, opposite to reserving)
(discharging means 排出 in chinese, since now we are talking about the use of unnecessary fuel will cause the 排出 of pollutants, so the word discharging is the result, not the cause)

(another: means the carbon particulates and pollutants are totally unrelated substances, which is not the case)
