(meaning as a reference to earlier studies)

Q2: burning
(reserving means keeping, but the passage means extra/unnecessary fuel is used, opposite to reserving)
(discharging means 排出 in chinese, since now we are talking about the use of unnecessary fuel will cause the 排出 of pollutants, so the word discharging is the result, not the cause)

Q3: other
(another: means the carbon particulates and pollutants are totally unrelated substances, which is not the case)
(as well as: if the sentence is written as carbon particulates __________ pollutants, AS WELL AS can be used, but now the word AND is added, so AS WELL AS cannot be use because AS WELL AS and AND have the same meaning)
