並不一定. 視乎你的上網的廠商是採用什麼形成.香港寬頻便不須用modem連線. 所以可以只用router來上網.

In HK , based on which ISP you choose :
HGC / PCCW / HK NET / Pacific / i-cabe all use modem mostly
HKBN / PCCW - Now TV / Some HK Island Estate for HGC use Cat 5 cable that
like your company one , all that normally no needs it
Modem are user for converting the signal from voice ( computer not known to
be meaningful )
