Magnesium and sodium are metal elements and in general case acts as reducing agents (electron donor) not oxidizing agents (electron acceptor), although magnesium ion and sodium are.

Thus 1st statement: False

Mg2+ accepts electrons more readily than Na+(aq).
From reactivity series sodium metal reacts (and donate its electrons) more readily than magnesium metal to form their respective ions, in the opposite way, magnesium ion Mg2+ accepts electrons more readily than sodium ion Na+ to form their respective metal elements.

2nd statement: True
