晚年達文西定居於法國羅瓦河谷的克勞城堡(Chateau De Clos Luce)，並在該處完成他的自畫像。晚年的達文西卻變得泰然、寧靜，致力研究信仰與自然的關係。他於1519年在克勞城堡去世。
