In 1950, about 39% of Hong Kong exports were shipped to China. The entrepot trade of HK continue to grow after the adoption of Open Door Policy. More and more Chinese goods are re-exported to other countries. The growth of re-export trade help Hong Kong herself to improve facilities like roads and piers. It help to develop tourism, banking and insurance in HK.

China is Hong Kong most important supplier of raw materials. The abundance of natural resources in the mainland can provide the needs of Hong Kong. In 1949, the Communist China was set up and adopted a policy of Long-term arrangement and full utilization towards HK. High standard of preferential treatment was given to HK. Then Hong Kong can have lower costs in purchasing daily necessities in China. It help to minimize inflation rates in HK.

China was HK"s major suppliers of food and resources. In 1965, the Dongjian Shenzhen Hong Kong water supply project solve water shortage problem of Hong Kong. Food have been brought by train. In 1973, the oil crisis hit HK economy badly. China oil supply to HK ease the energy shortage problem in HK.

Starting from 1980s, the investment from China in HK incrreases, it help Hong Kong to have wider sources of capital. It also boost HK tourism and business environement. Moreover the large purchasing power of Chinese tourists prosper HK tourism, hotel and sales services.
