1)A load of 77kg is distributed among Alex,Ben and Curtis,so that Alex carries 1/3 of what Ben carries, and Ben carries twice as much as curtis. What is the weight of the load that Ben carries?

2)A shop has sold 129 records by Alan and Anita with a total sales of $12,615.Each record by Alan and each record by Anita are sold at $110 and $95 respectively.How many records
(a)by Alan has the shop sold?
(b)by Anita has the shop sold?

(1) Assume that Curtis carry 3x kg,
then Ben carries twice as much as curtis, which is 6x kg
Alex carries 1/3 of what ben carries, which is 2x...

therefore 3x + 6x + 2x = 77kg
11 x = 77kg
x = 7kg

Ben carries 6x, which is 42 kg

(2)
Assume that Alan sell x records and Anita sell y records

therefore x + y = 129 (since the total number of records sold = 129)
110x + 95y = 12615 (total sales volume)

since x + y = 129 (multiple both side by 95)
95x + 95y = 12255

recall sales volume....

110x + 95y = 12615
15x + 95x + 95y = 12615 (but 95x + 95y = 12255)
15x + 12255 = 12615
15x = 360
x = 24
therefore y = 105

i.e. alan sold 24 records and anita sole 105 records
