Im having some trouble solving this one, could someone help me out

There is a pole in the lake. One half of the pole is in the ground, and one third of the pole is covered by water, 8ft is out of the water. What is the total length of the pole in ft.

somehow i came up with 48, It doesn't seem right..

Solve this one using the same approach we used on the other question you asked. Find the missing fraction and then you can find the total length.

1/2 is in the ground & 1/3 is in the water. this accounts for 1/2+1/3=3/6+2/6=5/6 of the pole. The other 1/6 is out of the water & is 8ft, so the total length is 8/(1/6)=48 ft.
1/2 in the ground is 24ft
1/3 in the water is 16 ft
1/6 is above the water =8ft
24+26+8=48ft

Find the common denominator; of one half and one third it is one sixth : one half equals three sixths and one third is two sixths ;;together they are five sixths, "And the remainder is eight feet" so that equals one sixth. Six times eight would be forty-eight; so we need something more than a rowboat to get that pole out !

One half in the ground , one third in the water 1/2+1/3=5/6leaving 1/6. 1/6=8ft. Pole is 48ft.

pole length outside the water=1-(1/2+1/3)=1-5/6=1/6
1/6=8' given
so length of the pole=48'
