General Information on British National (Overseas) Passport

Location:
The entrance to the BN(O) Passport Section is located on Justice Drive.

How to make an application:
We are open for accepting applications from 08.45 to 15.00 Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.

When submitting an application you will need to bring:
The completed application form (click here to download passport application form)
Your Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card
Your current BN(O) Passport
Two photographs (taken within last month on a WHITE background) Samples of passport photographs (PDF, 1.6M)

The appropriate fee (please refer to the Passport Fees page)
Completed passports can be returned to you by courier (fee HK$25) or collected in person from 08.45 to 16.30, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.

How to minimise waiting time:
Please note that the demand for passports is seasonal. Our busiest periods tend to be during the summer and school holidays. Therefore to minimise waiting time and obtain a faster service we recommend that you apply outside these periods.

成功登記成為英國國民(海外) 的BNO護照 持有人於護照過期後 ,可申請[續領]英國國民(海外)BNO護照 because 英國國民(海外)身份- BNO護照持有人是一個[終身]有效的身份。

根 據 《 中 華 人 民 共 和 國 香 港 特 別 行 政 區 基 本 法 》 第 十 八 條 和 附 件 三 的 規 定 ， 《 中 華 人 民 共 和 國 國 籍 法 》 自 一 九 九 七 年 七 月 一 日 起 在 香 港 特 別 行 政 區 實 施 。 考 慮 到 香 港 的 歷 史 背 景 和 現 實 情 況 ， 對 《 中 華 人 民 共 和 國 國 籍 法 》 在 香 港 特 別 行 政 區 實 施 作 如 下 解 釋 ：

二 、 所 有 香 港 中 國 同 胞 ， 不 論 其 是 否 持 有 「 英 國 屬 土 公 民 護 照 」 或 者 「 英 國 國 民 ( 海 外 ) 護 照 」 ， 都 是 中 國 公 民 。 自 一 九 九 七 年 七 月 一 日 起 ， 上 述 中 國 公 民 *可 繼 續 使 用 英 國 政 府 簽 發 的 有 效 旅 行 證 件 去 其 他 國 家 或 地 區 旅 行 *， 但 在 香 港 特 別 行 政 區 和 中 華 人 民 共 和 國 其 他 地 區 不 得 因 持 有 上 述 英 國 旅 行 證 件 而 享 有 英 國 的 領 事 保 護 的 權 利 。

Since BNO護照是英 國 政 府(Her Majesty's Government) 簽 發 and Chinese government allows ...上 述香 港 中 國 同 胞, 香 港中 國 公 民 *可 繼 續 使 用 英 國 政 府 簽 發 的 有 效 旅 行 證 件 去 其 他 國 家 或 地 區 旅 行 , BNO護照持有人have the right to renew [續領] BNO護照 anytime, at any passport office at 英國駐港總領事館 or any British High Commision in Commonwealth countries or any British Embassy at Overseas if necessary.

Also, British Nationality Acts states that all "BRITISH NATIONAL (OVERSEAS)" 護照 holders* are "Commonwealth Citizens".....section 37 (commonwealth citizenship).

如果持著BNO護照在國外, 英國會為你提供的服務和保護, 但 在 [香 港 特 別 行 政 區 ]和 [中 華 人 民 共 和 國 其 他 地 區 ]不 得 因 持 有 上 述 英 國 旅 行 證 件 而 享 有 英 國 的 領 事 保 護 的 權 利 。
國外英國領事部可以提供的服務 according to 英國法例領事提供服務.....：
英國領事部會盡力協助在海外遇到困難的英國國民，並就個別情況提供適合的服務包括：
簽發緊急護照；
提供匯款方法；
如遭受強姦或嚴重襲擊，或於其他罪案中受害；或有需要入院，英國領事部會提供適合的協助；
協助精神病患者；
提供本地律師、傳譯員、醫生及殯儀服務的資料；
假如你被拘留，我們會在接到通知後24小時內盡辦法與你聯絡；
在你同意下聯絡你的親友；以及
如遇上恐怖襲擊、社會騷亂或自然災害，英國領事部會作出特別的安排。
