What is the best way to lose 30lbs in 2 months? Serious answers please!!?

I work 10-12 hour days, so workout time is limited... and the starvation diet isn't realistic, so any serious suggestions would be great!!

Your goal is a little aggressive but don't let that stop you from starting toward your goal. Here are some aggressive but realistic ideas.

On Yahoo!Answers I find certain questions being asked repeatedly which is simply a reflection of new people participating. A couple of common question amounts to "How do I lose weight," or more specifically, "How do I lose abdominal fat?" I have gotten very positive responses from my answers when I paused to reply (and now beginning to get "It works!" emails that are very gratifying. I like helping people)... so have recently decided to put a good solid answer on my Yahoo!360 Blog (September 10) that I can point people to. These are my thoughts as a physician and athlete.

Don't target losing more than about 2 lbs per week. If you try to lose faster, your body will go into "starvation mode" and get very stingy about burning calories while at the same time very efficient about storing any calories that you do provide. And it will make you feel awful.

There is no site specific way of losing fat... the old myth about working your abs to burn belly fat isn't true. To get rid of love handles, you need to lose overall fat. That happens with exercise and watching your diet. More on that below.

The most effective way to lose fat is aerobic exercise in the "moderate" fat-burning range, ideally first thing in the morning before you eat. When you wake your body is ready to burn fat and your levels of growth hormone are highest at that time. Later in the day it can take up to 30 minutes just to put your body into a fat-burning mode.

Another overlooked way to burn fat is by lifting weights. Skeletal muscle has very high caloric needs... almost twice that of adipose (fat) tissue. Put on a little muscle and you will burn calories all day even at rest. Be aware that skeletal muscle weighs more, so with this approach you may see your weight increasing while your body fat is melting away. Not realizing this often stresses folks who think they should be losing weight as a measure of fitness. Forget the scale, look in the mirror and you will be happy.

To lose a pound of fat, you need to eliminate about 3500 calories. You can do this by burning more with exercise or by modifying your diet to reduce intake. If you do a Google search on say, "swimming calories" you will quickly find a website with tables of calories burned for a given exercise. You can use such lists to estimate how many calories you are burning up with your routine.

For diet, keep a diary for a couple of weeks counting calories, grams of protein, and grams of fat intake. It is easy with online sources of nutritional information (type the name of the food and calories into the Google search engine) and packaging labels. That will let you quickly figure out where the fat is coming from in your diet.

Fat gives you 9 calories per gram. So take the number of grams of fat, multiply by 9, then calculate what percentage the fat calories are of your total daily calories. Restricting the calories from fat to about 20% of your total intake is ideal for a maintenance diet... that isn't overly restrictive. Of note, you need some fat in your diet. For instance, the body uses fat to produce hormones. Once you have a picture of how to modify your diet, you can drop the diary and just go back to it occasionally if you are wanting to tweek things further.

There is a subset of questions that goes further and asks about "How to get a six-pack?" The answer is the same. Six-packs are 20% abdominal exercise and 80% diet. There is one caveat... abdominal muscles will form in the position that you work them, so be certain to pull them tightly toward your spine while doing crunches, etc. Also, during most lifting, the "core is active" which means that you should be stabilizing with contracted abs then too. Fail to do this and the abs will form, but bulging outward and the result is not attractive.

If you are trying to build muscle as a way to lose fat, then you may need to increase total calories and specifically your protein intake. I target about 0.8 g of protein per pound of body weight each day when actively building. That is far more protein than most people need in their diets.

Eat a small meal (Half a sandwhich, an apple & cottage cheese, a handful of nuts, etc.) EVERY TWO HOURS and it will increase your metabolism. Eat smart. No junk food. Do NOT eat/drink ANYTHING that has High Frutcose Corn Syrup in it. It has been proven to convert straight to fat in the body (High Frutcose Corn Syrup is used in a LOT of products because it is cheaper than sugar).

Exercise, even if it's just for 20 minutes a day. Weights, walk, cycle.

Go to www.bodybuilding.com and look for some great ideas. It is a nice website and not everyone is a "musclehead" on there.

Good luck, you cna do it!

Try the South Beach Diet. It works as is reasonably easy to stick to.

The best (and healthiest) way is Weight Watchers. I did it. I lost about 25lbs in 2 months. If you really stick to it and work out when you can then you can do it!

Good carbs like celery and carrots will never make you fat. Bad carbs like cake will, but you don't need to know the whole science of glycemic index and load. It is mostly NOT your fault, if you need to lose weight. The way we have been taught to eat is responsible for making obesity the number one health problem in the world (according to Atlantic Monthly magazine) replacing hunger and infectious disease. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin. Not a diet, but diet lifestyle.

Find out about fastest way to lose weight, gradual ways to lose weight, most effective exercise, good and bad carbs and anti-water. Lose bodyfat and retained water which also makes you a lot fatter (bloated). Links page has gov. BMI calculater to find out just how much overweight you are (teens plug in your age to compare to others your age). Get latest info like American Heart Association does not want you to eat more than 6 ounces daily of meat, fish or poultry. Most important-- make sure to read the last "fat loss tip", first before anything else, to see the number one food that causes Americans to be fat.

My wife has done curves. my answer is very opinionated, but I really do stick behind it. Knowing my wife's level of dedication, discipline, and knowing her friends and some of my own female friends and coworkers that go to or have gone to Curves, I just don't think its a program for people who are serious about fitness and weight loss. It is either a plaace for an easy, mainetenance free , light workout for someone that is relatively fit but wants a little activity. Or it is a place that offers itself up as an immensely easy workout for people that really do avoid the hardcore working out needing to get in, stay in shape and lose alot of weight. For something that would offer quick results, but also help you maintain something more long term I would reallly suggest either finding a real gym and workout program, or just making sure you do quite a bit more than Curves generally offers. sorry, just my opinion.

You ask a serious question,I shall give you a serious answer. I have many solutions for your dilemma. The first, which may sound crazy because nobody really knows about it is very simple and you have to practice it all the time! The way people breathe has a very strong affect on their metabolism. Case in point people who smoke, taking slow deep breathes, will gain a bunch of weight when they quit, not because they are eating more but because their breathing pattern has changed, often slower shallow breathes and that is why they gain weight. So #1:Practice slow deep controlled breathing 2:eat well balaced meals, mainly composed of meat(no red meat)such as chicken and fish,a green vegetable(no corn or potatoes),and a rice dish.3:Drink tons of ice cold water(the colder it is the faster your metabolism works and finally 4:absolutely no soda or candy bars!

1. Diet - No not a starvation diet, but a well balanced diet. Have cereals for breakfast, lots of protein for dinner (salads, etc) and some carbs is fine for dinner. Or vice versa for lunch and dinner. Or u could spread out the carbs (a little bit during both meals) Remember: Carbs are the DEVIL! But we still need carbs for energy. And if u have fat u don't need that much carbs coz fat breakdown supplies energy too. Or u could just have take meal replacement shakes which are due too.

2. Since u're unable to workout, u can utilize the time at work to do minor workouts. say chair dips for triceps workouts, do stretches whenever u can, etc. Keep it fun. Every activity u do can help u lose weight.

3. Drink lots and lots and lots of water. Not only it supresses appetite, but aids in weight loss and gives you great skin too.

4. U may be able to lose 30lbs in 2 months, provided u have a high metabolism. The only way to increase metabolism is to exercise. But if u follow the regimes above, i guarentee u would lose considerable amount in 2 months. :)

Seems a bit drastic. Any fad diet will work if you stay disciplined and don't cheat. Of course that's not the healthiest way to lose it and most people fail at some point because these diet's are too restrictive.

My best advice would be to check out the book Intuitive Eating. It offers both healthy and practical advice to change your eating habits, and it promotes methods that will help you develop a better relationship with food and your body. This is important because many people associate "diets" with punishment and end up falling off track at some point, and going on a vicioius cycle of ups and downs. The book can help you lose the weight and develop better eating habits that'll allow you to eat all of your favorite foods without feeling the guilt.

It takes about 6-8 weeks to get your metabolism kick started. Working out is the most realistic way to lose weight. It may seem difficult after a long workday (I used to say the same thing) but once you start tt will be difficult to skip a day.

30 lbs in 2 months is not realistic or healthy. A healthy goal is to lose 2-3 pounds a week.

I also highly recommend cutting out fried food, soda, chocolate, and dairy from your caloric intake. These are all high in fat and cutting these out (add lots of fruits and vegetables) is a great way to lose weight when working out.

My mom didn't go over 1200 calories a day and lost 20 pounds in a month and she drunk a TON of water. She only ate baked foods(not fried), diet bread (limit starchy foods, like potatoes and pasta), no pop (even diet), and eat a salad every day with a light or fat free dressing. She didn't even exercise and lost all that weight....good luck!

lots of raw vegetables, green tea, water. all you want. artificial sweeteners only. Worked for me:-)
2006-10-04 3:33 am
Eat small portions ( doesnt matter what ...just small portions ) 5 to 7 times daily every 3 to 4 hours, exercising hard daily. Drink much and often ......... water and natural juices. Fail proof and extremely beneficial !
2006-10-04 3:32 am
Stricly friuts 4 breakfast, vegetables and sometimes a small serving of meat 4 lunch, no dinner and WATER always! If u have a 'sitdown' job like i do this should work but if you move around alot you could have a sandwich 4 dinner, no fast food
2006-10-04 3:31 am
It can be done, but make sure that you are eating healthy and keeping yourself hydrated.
When I worked 12 hours I barely ate a thing because when I wasn't working I was sleeping. I had no time for food.
You need to first see a doctor and if your health is good try this:
You know the 48 hour diet do it once a week, get your colon cleansed at least 2 or 3 times in that 2 month period.
If you don't lose 30 pounds it will be very close to it but after the weight comes off slowly start back eating foods you like just control your portions.
Good Luck!
2006-10-04 3:31 am
Well you need to eat the "Healthy Food ". Try to get 5 smaller meals a day , Drink a lot of water eat your veggies and fruit and start Exercising! Like walking, or riding your bike. You probably won't shed 30 pounds in 2 month ,that would mean to go on a crash diet and that is unhealthy anyway.
No fried food ,chocolate ,chips etc.
2006-10-04 3:30 am
losing 30lbs in 2 months is too fast...2pounds per week is what's realistic...plus if you do lose that much pounds in such a short amount of time, it's not healthy for your body and you might experience so side effects....so work on losing 2 pounds/week and you'll get to losing 30lbs. soon (about 4 months)
2006-10-04 3:29 am
eat really small meals through out the day, drink lots of green tea (it boosts your metabolism) and water to flush out your system. Try to get in as much excercise as possible, like taking the stairs instead of the elevator, park farther away...stuff like that. You may not lose the full 30 lbs, but 30 lbs in 2 months is a little unrealistic, try to make it 20

eat healthy and exercise alot .. :P. lol

One thing I know is if you STOP all "white" foods. What I mean, is anything made with "white flour", all potatoes, rice, sugar. It does work, but I am not sure it will work as quick as you wish.
2006-10-04 3:27 am
I swear by the raw food diet...and you don't suffer on that one either.

salad without dressing and nothing else. Never sit down if possible and run a lot. Worked for me before I went to cancune

The starvation diet works. It's possible so I don't want to hear it. If you're working 10-12 hours a day, you shouldn't have time to eat anyways. I've lost 10 pounds in a week by eating 2 apples a day and having only water to drink. Also, multivitamins.
