What's the deal with DSL? Do you need a special modem? Who are some of the more common providers like SBC? Can you get access to wireless DSL?

What about installation? Can it be done do-it-yourself or is a technician needed?

DSL is awesome. You do need a special modem and usually whatever ISP you decide to get...they will provedi you with a modem. You cannot have a wireless connection unless you have a router. I have AT&T DSL which is SBC Yahoo! and I love it. It's fast..and easy! And tech support is so helpful.

DSL is broadband Internet connectivity over your existing phone line. Yes, you need a DSL modem, but it's usually provided by the service provider. One common provider in the East (where I live) is Verizon. Wireless has nothing to do with DSL. To get wireless connectivty, you need a wireless router or access point and attach it to the DSL modem.

yes you need a modem and then you dont need a phone line. I dont know if these providers are in your area but here are some: Qwest, Comcast, Time Warner, and I think Verizon has DSL now too.

Bellsouth is a good provider for DSL and YES, you need to have a special modem with them. They come out and install it for you. If you want wireless, purchase a wireless router (Wal-Mart has them) and the Bellsouth guy will help you with that too. Good luck. Oh...make sure to secure your network on the wireless router or others have access to it- like your neighbors!
