Its not rocket science, the author was trying to tell people that they shouldn't be so demanding on their children and run their lives. Let the children grow. Give them freedom. Let them expand their horizons.

This was such an easy story it was a condemnation of organized religion.

i think it was supposed to be about the industrialist that caused the great depression in America in the 20-30's.

The targets are authoritarianism generally, and Marxism specifically.

The targets are the communists/marxists, represented by the pigs who are "more equal" than the others.

This was based on George Orwell's bitter experience as a pro-communist.

The Russian (formally the USSR's) version of communism (socialism) back during the cold war. They might have been specific during the initial writing (totaly guess) but pretty much could have been applied to any of the Kremlin leaders up to Yeltsin.

Politicians specifically and people in general are the targets. A readable satire the book keeps some suspense till the last chapter. George Orwel did a very good job. In another novel 1984 Orwel talks about thought police getting inside public minds to collect intelligence .
