If after system restore and your DVD burner keeps on acting that way, then I would say that the problem is hardware in nature. There are actually other factors that influence the behaviour of your DVD Burner. Of course one is the DVD burning software per se. Conflicts arise if you have more than DVD burning softwares installed. Having both Sonic for instance and AnyDVD/CloneDVD will affect your DVD burning time, much more if an anti-virus is running in the background - plus you have little free hard disk space left for the temporary files to be stored.
Anyways, as I care about my laptop, I prefer to burn my movies via external DVD burners. It's really expensive to do hardware replacements in laptops.
