My portable hard drive got burn. how do i get the data out of it?

my portable hard drive got burn. i smell it. so i put in another portable hard drive but it doesn't work. it didn't run at all. what should i do? i have so many important data in there. please help me to get the data out. please don't tell me buy a new hard drive. Thanks in advance.

Download a copy of Knoppix Linux live CD. This will allow you to access the harddrive and hopefully you can save your data. http://www.knoppix.com/
