This is an off brand, don't know if you can find them anymore, but a friend of mine has had a "Roper" washer and dryer for years. Never has tore up. I don't know the price, but I know it was cheap.
Kenmore. I always get my appliances at Sears. They last forever- have a great extended warranty plan & come to your house to fix/ maintain if there is a problem. Maybe a couple bucks more- but alot cheaper than buying two machines in a few years.
Wait for Columbus Day if you can -the BEST sale weekend of the year(that and President's Day in Feb)
I sold appliances for Lowe's fro @ 4 years. We sell High-end brands such as Fisher-Packel,Bosch,LG,.they are all impressive but I lay my trust in Consumer Reports and customer feed back. You want to stick with Whirlpool or Kenmore (same thing)The have the BEST track record as far as repair history and customer satisfaction. We also sell ASKO,A very well known European brand. All these brands were tested and Whirlpool-Kenmore,also finish on top.I,myself, have the DUETS.I LOVE them!!
I know I am happy with mine. I have the Whirlpool Duet front loading washer and dryer set with the pedastals underneath. I love it. I am short and I always had trouble reaching into a top loading washer so this works great for me. I have had them for a couple of years now and no problems at all. I received them as a Christmas gift from my husband. I believe it was around $900 - $1100 for all of it.
Amana makes a good commercial grade washing machine for home use. It has a stainless steel drum, which won't rust and will stand up to years of chemicals.
