yes the navy's standards for physical fitness are not what they once were. you'll be able to do it before you leave basic and if not you have another year to get up to standards before they kick you out.

I don't think you have to do pull ups in boot camp.....the physical fitness test in the navy is pushups, situps and 1.5 mile run. Pullups are a requirement if you want to do special forces.

you don't do any pull-ups in the navy unless you are trying out for Seals or SAR's. honest im tell you what to expect at boot camp. its easy, don't make the rdc's mad, and do what you got to do. don't do stupid things that you have to do. all you do honestly is fold clothes, iron, march, eat, do some navy training, and some other stuff. if your going to submarines. just wait till you go there. but honestly its fun times. you will need to pass a physical test, a mile and a half in 12:30 (depending on age), do an X number of push ups, and sits, (the more you do the better). come physically, and mentally ready.

I couldn't do a pull-up prior to joining the Army, and I got through basic just fine. If you are generally healthy, and can stick through the tough parts, basic training will physically condition you to where you need to be.

I bet you can. By the time you're done with basic - you'll be able to do them.

Good luck and thanks!

NO!!!

There is an anatomical reason why some people have more difficulty with pull-ups. The navy knows this and will tend to look more at overall physical fitness. Keep trying, run, do push-ups and sit-ups, and you WILL eventually be able to do a few. Losing some pounds might help. Good luck.

After about 10 years I still can't get pass ten (after an accident that separed my shoulder though) I think the Navy and the Marines require you to do pull ups but the Army doesn't and the air Forcve ...well they don't even have to do much to begin with. See a recruiter, they will put you in uniform.

The only thing pull ups are involved with is doing special ops. The only thing that you need to work on if you want to join is running, push ups, and situps. All three of these are easy to improve upon just as long as you keep doing it. The more you work on these the longer and more you find yourself able to do.

I'm a little out of touch with this. I went through army basic in 1977 and pull ups were required.

I wouldn't worry a lot about it. We had to do horizontal ladders, kind of a pull up, in a monkey bar sort of way. I scored top in my company on the run dodge and jump stuff and passable on everything but the the horizontal ladders. The drill sargent called me into his office and told me my overall score was good enough to pass the PT test but, I also had to pass every exercise and if I didn't get better on the the horizontal ladders I would not pass basic.

I did enough to pass, but if I hadn't I think I would have got sent to the fat man company where there they take the out of shape people and give them extra training.

My guess is by the time you get out of basic you'll be able to pass unless there's something wrong with you.

it use to be required in basic that a recruit do pull-ups to pass physical training
2006-08-27 2:08 am
They do push ups for thier testing. Not pull ups. Yes they will teach you how to do it really fast.
2006-08-27 2:03 am
no...
you might be able to like, drive an aircraft carrier or something....
but if you cant do a pull-up? i would do some training before you start to seriously think about it

You will most likely make it through basic training. If you think you could lose a few pounds - you will. If you think you could add some muscle - you will. If you want to improve your chances to make the physical training a bit easier on yourself first, that's your decision but getting in shape is part of why there is a 'basic' training anyway. I guarantee they've seen men or women who are more out of shape than you at the recruiters office, and signed them...

I doubt that squibs are required to do pull ups. You sure don't need them to swing a mop!
2006-08-27 2:03 am
Yes, you will get in shape during basic training, and by the end of basic, you will be in pretty good shape.

No way

Train yourself first. If you cannot, forget about navy.

I'm sure this has been answered numerous times, but in the Navy, no pull-ups are required, just push ups, sit-ups, toe-touch, and a 1.5 mile run in a certain amount of time. Good luck!

You don't have to do pull-ups. If you can stand running then you will be fine.

navy dosent do pull ups!

Navy Physical readiness tests, with associated height/weight/body fat measurements, are conducted twice each fiscal year. The test is designed to measure flexibility, muscular endurance and aerobic capacity. The Navy physical fitness test consists of a 1.5 mile run, sit-ups and push-ups. This is a standard PT test used by other braches and many law enforcement agencies across the United States.

go for it GO NAVY! have fun and see you there lol :)

You will make it through basic training. The military trains you to overcome any physical limitations you have before they test you. Keep a positive attitude during your training and you will do fine.

Why worry about pull up? Worry about whether or not you can swim!!! =) Just kidding. Dude, it's all about practice.
2006-08-27 2:55 am
Dude don't sweat it... Navy doesn't do pull ups in basic, I know I just went through basic not more than 2 years ago. And believe me with the extra body weight I have in certian areas of the female anatomy I got through it.

I believe if I'm correct the only people that do the pull ups are the FMF Corspman and the guys that go through BUDS the SEAL training.

It's the navy.

You can barely pass a tape test and make it through Boot Camp on the first try.

lol

You'll make it through, and you'll be able do a pull up when you do. Have fun in those overseas ports!
