Naturally Curly MAJORLY DAMAGED Hair, NEEDS HELP!?

2006-08-23 7:02 pm
Ok heres the deal:

I have naturally curly hair, which I have been straightening daily for a very long time now. So my hair is very damaged. I like my hair better straight, but I would LOVE to be able to keep it curly, I just can't find a style that is easy to do and not time consuming. My hair is a bit past shoulder length when left curly and it always poofs up wich I don't like. The top layer is always weird waves and underneath its really curly (Which I dont mind) I need idea's of what to do with my hair so I don't continue to damage it as much! HELP?!

I have naturally curly hair and I have found that if I do not blow it dry, the curls lay much nicer. I too prefer my hair straight and use a flat iron on it often, but I use a very moisturizing shampoo and conditioner AND I do treatments on it weekly to keep it from drying out. I also use leave-in conditioners and anytime I use the flat iron I use BioSilk's Silk Therapy to protect it. Now when I wear it curly, I do my usual shampoo, apply a leave-in, apply some silk therapy and some Frederic Fekkai Gloss, I let it air dry and scrunch it a lot with my hands or a wash cloth (for some reason that really makes the curls come out).......I think that by not blow drying it makes the curls stay together better that way it does not frizz. Good luck!

I am an absolute curly hair lover...(in fact, I don't date girls who don't have curly hair...lol...tad obsessive I know, but that's my thing)

Anyway, I know that www.naturallycurly.com is a great site for helping people who have naturally curly hair. So I give that to you as a suggestion :)

OK, if you want to straighten it at home you can buy a Sedu flat iron and it's supposed to be incredibly effective. You can see pics of how it works at www.folica.com

If you want to work with the curls, then you need a really good haircut and that means don't go to the cheap salon. You can get consults and observe who knows how to cut properly. Don't choose just anyone.

There are defrizzers and gels that should help you. Sometimes if you fight the curl too much, it frizzes. In the past I've used John Frieda's Frizz-Ease on my soaking wet hair. It helps! Then I use a heavy duty gel like Creative Genius and add that to the top. Then I air dry or use a diffuser. Don't blow it out, it will just increae the problem as you probably know by now.

Let us know how it turns out after trying what you think sounds good.

use thermal protection spray before u straighten ur hair so that it won't get damaged anymore, don't dye it or bleach it cos that's real bad! use shampoo and conditioner specifically for damaged hari and use those little treatment sachets from like V05 or summin...Also if you want to experiment a bit with your hair invest in a GHD ceramic straightener, they're totally amazing...i have naturally curly hair n 30 minutes of the ghd and my hair stays straight with slight curls where i want them for a whole week..so that gets rid of the daily straightening which is really really unhealthy...but if you want your hair curly, just use some sort of serum in it (fructis sleek n shine weightless smoothing serum does the trick for me) and don't brush your hair once it's dried...natural curls look amazing..Good luck!

Use luke warm olive oil to oil your hair everytime before you wash them.
only wash your hair twice a week.
stop heating up your hair ( as by using straightner or dryer...etc)
avoid ny sort of chemicals on your hair.

First..you need to get a cut where the poofy layer is thinned out and the underlying curl is allowed to show. There are shampoos that really do work with our kind of hair that you can wash in straighter hair or let it go curly. I never use heat on my hair. I let it air dry and only use a wide-toothed comb or my fingers to style it. Never forget that women spend mega-bucks to get hair like ours, so revel in your natural beauty and keep your hair trimmed and clean!

i use DOVE shampoo. it works wonders on my hair, and has an awsome scent. what i wood do is use DOVE, and keep stregten =ing your hair. then, when it is longer, you can let is go curly again, without it turning into a frizzball aroung your neck.

1. Get your ends trimmed
2. STOP STRAIGHTENING YOUR HAIR
3. No more heat products (blow dryer, curling iron, etc.)
4. Condition, condition, condition!!!
5. Find a mousse or anti-frizz product that offers some control without drying your hair out.
6. Buy a wide-toothed comb. NEVER use a brush. And always use leave-in conditioner when your hair is wet.

Get some STRONG hairspray and when you get out of the shower keep it wet and spray it down later when it air dries it will be pretty curls with no poofing and no hard stiffness, I think that the little bit of water dulls the hairspray so it doesnt feel crunchy but it still gives a strong hold on wild hair. Don't scrunh because if you do you will get jagged spikes and it won't look natural. I love Bedhead's hairpsray: Masterpiece

Have you talked to your hair stylist? There may be a relaxer or chemical straightener than can be used. You may want to cut off the damaged part, and start with fresh, healthy hair.

First off stop straightening your hair everyday. That's the reason your hair is so damaged. You should get your hair permanently straightened at the hair salon. The straightness usually lasts up to 3 months. And with it straight you can do anything you want with it including making your hair wavy.
